מלון ורה כיום הוא אחד ממלונות בוטיק שבמרכז תל אביב. הוא מרשים בשירות הנדיב, אוכל גורמה וחדרים מאובזרים ברמה גבוהה. אך בתחילת תולדותיו של תל אביב לה היה רחוב זה סואן ומלא חיים כמו שאנחנו רואים אותו כיום. במגרש הסמוך בנה לעצמו בית דוקטור פוחובסקי אשר עלה ארצה מרוסיה לאחר שסיים לימודי רופאה בחרקוב בסוף מאה ה-19. הוא השתקע ביפו ולימים היה בין ראשוני המתיישבים של אחוזת בית. בקרב ביתו לאון פוחובסקי בנה בית חולים פרטי ולאחר מלחמת העולם הראשונה פתח בית יולדות הראשון בתל אביב. לימים בשנות השלושים הוא רכש אדמות בהוד השרון ובנה שם אחוזה לשם להזדקן במקום מלא שלווה.
