Rachel Windrin, the monument designer, faced a big problem during its construction. she found the remains of the first medieval synagogue in the excavations. Underneath the monument, she considered building a temple museum at a depth of 7 meters. Two hundred thousand Jews lived in Austria on the eve of the war, most of whom were deported to other countries. Sixty-five thousand were murdered. Memorial Address is written in three languages. The Hebrew inscription is different, saying "Yimach their name".
Extremely recommend spending two hours in Vienna with guide Tom. He tells the stories of the city and its history in the short, interesting and elegant way. The trip starts from Stephan Platz, passes through the streets of Graben, the Jewish quarter, Am Hof and ends at Ferstel Palace and the Mekler cellar.
