Columbus Monument was built in honor of the discoverer of Christopher Columbus and is installed at the junction between Las Ramblas and Paseo de Colon, opposite the old port of Barcelona. The author of the project was the architect Caetano Buigas. The monument was built on the occasion of the World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1888 and was opened on June 1, 1888. Soon it became one of the most famous symbols of the city.
