In the Middle Ages, there was a wound in this place. Outside the ramparts, they traded milk and butter. At the end of the nineteenth century, they decided to place a monument to Rembrandt on the square and name the square after him. In front of the statue is a dramatic sculptural composition of the Night Watch, the work of Russian sculptors Alexander Dronov and Mikhail Tartynov.
