Downing Street is a charming residential street in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York City. The road runs from Sixth Avenue to Varick Street and is known for its historic architecture, beautiful townhouses, and lush greenery.

Downing Street was named after Sir George Downing, a 17th-century Anglo-Irish statesman who served as a diplomats and spy for the English crown. Downing was instrumental in negotiating the Treaty of Breda, which ended the Second Anglo-Dutch War in 1667.

The street is lined with beautiful historic buildings, including row houses and townhouses that date back to the 19th century. Many buildings have been well-preserved and feature unique architectural details, such as ornate facades, decorative ironwork, and beautifully landscaped gardens.

The poet Edgar Allan Poe lived at 85 West 3rd Street, just a few blocks from Downing Street, and is said to have visited the area frequently. Today, Downing Street remains a popular destination for visitors to Greenwich Village, thanks to its beautiful architecture, lush greenery, and historical significance. The street is home to a mix of residential and commercial buildings, including several trendy cafes, restaurants, and shops.
