An ancient archive was discovered at this location consisting of 103 ostraca written in Hebrew and 80 ostraca in Aramaic. The majority of these inscriptions were written in ink on ceramic fragments. The notes refer to military orders, the supply of food and weapons to other fortresses in the region, the collection of taxes, and the dispatch of wine, oil, and cereals. All of this indicates that the defence was strategically essential and directly controlled by Jerusalem.
